Coral Thief :: Denver, CO

Nominated Best Reggae/Dub band in Denver by Westword

Denver’s very own Westword has nominated Coral Thief for the best Reggae/Dub band in Denver! We are greatly honored to be in such a great group of musicians. Click the image on the left or here to vote for Coral Thief now! We are located in poll question #34 so vote away! Read below what Westword has to say about this showcase.

Formulating the ballot each year for the Westword Music Showcase is always a daunting task, from polling our nominating committee to considering their collective input and putting the whole thing together. But it also serves as an excellent litmus test for the overall state of our scene. This year, as we assembled the ballot for the eighteenth edition of the Showcase — which takes place Saturday, June 23, across more than a dozen stages in the Golden Triangle — we couldn’t help but marvel at how much the scene continues to thrive. As you’ll see below, it’s as healthy and vibrant as ever.

Now that this year’s ballot is compiled, we need your help in determining the winners in each category. The deadline for all ballots is June 25 — which means you can wait to vote until after you’ve heard many of the acts at the Westword Music Showcase, where you can also see this year’s headliners, Girl Talk, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Battles, plus more that have yet to be announced. We’ll print the full lineup in April sometime after our upcoming Best of Denver issue.

Keep up with Music Showcase line-up additions, venue announcements and more on Facebook, on Twitter @Music_Showcase and on Backbeat, Westword’s music blog.

Coral Thief Teams Up with Del Mar April 12th, 2012

About Del Mar:

Del Mar came together in the winter of ’06 as way to keep its band members out of direct trouble with the law. 100% DIY and based out of Reno, Nevada, Del Mar hosts Bud on drums from Long Beach and Matt on guitar from other various parts of Southern California.
Inspired by all types of GOOD music, Del Mar holds true to its roots with eclectic and eccentric songs & live performances guaranteed to rock yer pants off.
Playing classic surf tunes and original surf and punk music, Del Mar smoked out the studio with Miguel Happbolt behind the console in December of ’07; the 6 song demo saw a very limited release in February of ’08. Del Mar’s first full-length album After the Quake was recorded at Headway Studios in Garden Grove in October of ’08 and was co-produced by Rob Perez and Bert Susanka (Ziggens).

MATT BODE – Lead guitar, vocals, rhythm, drums
BUD GAUGH – Drums, rhythm guitar
MIKE MARTINEZ – Bass guitar, lead, rhythm
NICOLE HUTCHESON – Rhythm guitar, lead, bass, vocals

About Kat From American Idol:

Kat Nestel from Orange County, California who favors being known just by her first name Kat, headed north to Los Angeles for her first tryouts and audition for the Season 9 American Idol singing talent search competition.

Her arrival at the Rose Bowl which is actually in Pasadena, California, not Los Angeles, was a rather fruitful one because she won over the panel of judges who rewarded her with the golden ticket to Hollywood after hearing her sing “Saw Red.”

Allegedly, Kat Nestel believes that her mission and purpose in life is to sing and make music and so that is where her passion and energy are focused as she write original tunes to the lyrics she composes herself, as she strums the strings of her guitar, as she glides her fingers over the white and black keys of her piano and, of course, as she sings her own pieces or someone else’s. We at American Buzz consider Kat Nestel to be one very talented young lady, wouldn’t you?

About Zen Robbi:

ZEN ROBBI is Mic Dangerously (vocals, guitar), Scotty Hollywood (drums) and Timmy “Too Tall” (bass, vocals), three men on the road to musical success.

Brought together in 2004 by the winds of nature or you could say the ever-evolving LA music scene, unforgettable shows and tight friendships is where ZEN ROBBI has found much of its influence and progression as a band. Infusing their own unique sound, witty lyrics and unbelievable musical talent with funk, blues and rock overtones is what allows ZEN ROBBI to set themselves apart from any other band on the music scene today.

Guitar & Lead Vox – Mic Dangerously
Drums & Backing Vox – Scotty “Spoon” Wittenberg
Bass & Backing Vox – Timmy Too Tall

*SSV Presents* I Before E Winter Tour 2012!

Time to reboard our bus, Skoolie, and leave the foothills of the Rocky Mountains to come to a city near you for the Silver Surfer Vaporizer “I Before E Tour”! Head on over to our ‘Tour’ page for the complete line-up. The tour concept came from simple grammatical errors on promotional material for the word “thief” in Coral Thief. We figured this would leave out any more confusion… Anyhow, this tour is going to be amazing! Our first round in Skoolie was quite an adventure and we are looking to add to the “Mobile Reef Chronicles”, so you can follow some fun, interesting, wild, and down right frightening stories of life on the road.

We will be playing the majority of the shows with The Originalites out of the famed 17th ST. Studios Costa Mesa, CA and our brother Yoni from Matisyahus-Live at Stubbs. We will also be sharing the stage with bands such as Kat from American Idol, T.U.G.G., Middle Coast, and Ghosts of Swinetown. From the Midwest to Texas and to the west coast, you might want to check all dates and locations because we quite possibly might be coming to a city near you! Be sure to grab yourself a copy of our new EP, yep you guessed it “I before E” from one of our lovely band members or merch person at the show. Us boys from Coral Thief are very excited for this tour and can’t wait to penetrate that skull of yours with some good reggae beats!
