We are honored to be a 2013 nominee for the 2013 Denver Westword Music Showcase! Each year Denver Westword hosts an AMAZING musical showcase of the best bands the Denver music scene has to offer. What’s even better is that you can choose who will get to play! On Saturday, June 22, they will showcase a great many of these acts at more than a dozen clubs across the Golden Triangle; look for a full lineup next month. Halloween FUN FEST!!
It’s going to be a spooky night on Halloween in Salida, CO this year. People aimlessly wandering the streets in what we only hope are costumes. Some ask strangers for candy while others will be searching out a more exotic form of entertainment. What kind of exotic entertainment could possibly be happening in Salida that night, you may say?! Well look no further than your boys CORAL THIEF!
We will be rockin’ Salida all night long on Halloween starting at 9:30PM. Did we mention it’s a costume party?! The Colorado Reggae Showcase is a monthly focus on bringing to stage the wide variety and talented Reggae bands from Colorado. For the 2nd edition, to be held on Friday, October 5th, some of Colorado’s most progressive reggae bands will take the stage while paying homage to the roots and tradition of reggae with Dub Poetry. Desciples, Coral Thief, Dub Poet Ras Marcus Benjamin and The Nyabinghi Warriors and DJ BloodPreshah will combine to showcase Denver the variety that the Colorado Reggae genre has to offer.
Desciples are a Reggae infused Rock band from Denver, Colorado currently defining and shaping a new genre of music band member Chili Moreno, dubbed Dreadrock. It’s a sound the band has pioneered from artists such as Sublime, 311, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Bob Marley.
Composed of Rocky Mountain music veterans, Coral Thief is an original, Denver based reggae/dub act bringing a fresh new sound to the people. Driving rhythms and melodious guitar lines combined with smooth vocals and flows give Coral Thief a unique sonic style. Their live show is upbeat, fun and energy filled and they are always looking to please a crowd and leave them wanting more.
Visible and influenctial around the Colorado Reggae scene for over 3 decades, Ras Marcus Benjamin has been writing and performing poetry for nearly three decades. After first writing Beat Poetry, his work evolved into the art form Dub Poetry—inspired by the revolutionary Reggae beat and artists such as Louise Bennett, Mutabaruka, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Malachi Smith, Benjamin Zephaniah and Oku Onoru.
DJ Bloodpreshah has continued to set the bar high for Colorado reggae DJ’s. in an informal poll conducted earlier this year by Reggae Movement, Bloodpreshah continued to get the most responses for “favorite Colorado Reggae DJ.” In the scene for over 15 years, his unique style and approach continues to win fans new and old.
